The Wild West explodes on stage in this rollicking adaptation of the classic MGM movie musical SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS. Last season the New York Times called this all-new production “Magnificent!” and Variety hailed it as “Exuberant Family Entertainment!” And here’s what the Boston Globe had to say: “A high-energy, high-spirited production with athletic, inventive choreography. Oh, that dancing. Vigor and rustic beauty with astonishing moments of gymnastic grace… a genuine show stopper.” Add a gloriously tuneful Tony®-nominated score and the result is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser for the whole family! SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS is produced by the 5th Avenue Theatre in association with Theatre Under The Stars, Paper Mill Playhouse and North Shore Music Theatre. It will launch in Seattle in December 2008 with a tour to follow in 2009. SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS features a Book by Lawrence Kasha and David Landay, Lyrics by Johnny Mercer, Music by Gene de Paul and New Songs by Al Kasha and Joel Hirschhorn. “Magnificent! A humdinger! A cast of multitalented players who sing and dance their hearts out, the show offers nonstop pleasure. Patti Colombo’s choreography is outstanding – it delights the eye. The company rises to her challenge with a series of enchanting dance vignettes that are the high points of the show.” “This ‘feel good,’ all new presentation brilliantly combines all elements that superb theater represents. Inspiring dance numbers accompany marvelous new songs, and the contributions of the entire very motivated team, is a moment in theatre for all ages, not to be missed!” “Rollicking and tuneful! Exuberant family entertainment! The true glory of the show is Patti Colombo’s stunning choreography.” The best thing about this version is the choreography. Patti Colombo has devised elaborate, athletic routines… the show comes to life.” “Witty, quick dialogue combined with engaging musical numbers, on-cue actors and spectacular choreography make Seven Brides a no-brainer for summertime amusement.” “The real gift of this wedding banquet is the splendid choreography — a crazy quilt of high-kicking hootenanny steps, graceful ballet maneuvers and splendid gymnastics involving backflips, somersaults and knockabout fight scenes that works the audience into a frenzy” “A total success! Impressive. Glorious costumes, sparkling and thrilling choreography and a huge cast with magnificent voices!” “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers explodes off the stage in this robust and exuberant revival. Patti Colombo’s effervescent choreography – by turns brawny and balletic – recalls the magic of the MGM film, but gamely inserts her own comic touches, sizzling timing, and bold athleticism. The audience jumped to its feet mid-performance to give the rousing “Challenge Dance” a thunderous – and well deserved – ovation. A dynamite ensemble, many of whom could be described as quadruple-threats: actors, singers, dancers and gymnasts. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is the very picture of health.” The brothers are strapping and rambunctious, dancing with robust athleticism. The ‘brides’ are fetching and dance expertly.” “The cast are clean-shaven and dressed to impress. Their masterful dancing skills showcase highly impressive choreography by Patti Colombo.” “A thoroughly polished, first-rate production!” “Bless their beautiful hides! Exhilarating entertainment filled to the bursting point with athletic dancers, soaring singers and a seriously fine-looking ensemble” “Certainly, it’s the kind of thing you’re not likely to see anywhere else. An experience you won’t get from IMAX or YouTube. Bravos all around! Impressive dancing and breathtaking scenery. For sheer energy, drive and dazzle, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers packs a wallop!” Kent McIngvale Kent@bbonyc.com Jen Salez Jen@bbonyc.com |
