With a score including such enduring musical numbers as “Let the Sun Shine In,” Aquarius,” “Hair” and “Good Morning Starshine,” HAIR depicts the birth of a cultural movement in the 60’s and 70’s that changed America forever. The musical follows a group of hopeful, free-spirited young people who advocate a lifestyle of pacifism and free love in a society riddled with intolerance and brutality during the Vietnam War. As they explore sexual identity, challenge racism, experiment with drugs and burn draft cards, the show resonates with an irresistible message of hope.

HAIR won the 2009 Tony Award for Best Musical Revival as well as the Drama Desk, Drama League, and Outer Critics Circle award for Outstanding Revival of a Musical. The HAIR cast recording was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album. Directed by Diane Paulus and choreographed by Karole Armitage, HAIR features a book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado and music by Galt MacDermot.

Reviews

“Seen 40 years after it first stormed the middle-class citadel of musical comedy, ‘Hair’ registers as an eloquent requiem not only for the idealism of one generation but also for the evanescence of youth itself. ‘Hair,’ it seems, has deeper roots than anyone remembers.”

The New York Times

“Hair has not just been revived; it has been reinvigorated and reclaimed as one of the great milestones in musical-theater history.  Today Hair seems, if anything, more daring than ever.”

Time

“The rousing revival of Hair…feels as fresh now as it did then.”

New York Post

“Over 40 and still tuneful. Not only tuneful, but filled with an energy that belies its four decades of existence.”

Associated Press

“‘Hair’ is exuberantly entertaining.  It’s a treat to see a passionate revival of a landmark musical.”
